ELGIN, Ill. (AP) — A man has been hospitalized in critical condition after being hit in the head with a 12-pound shot put during a track and field event in suburban Chicago.

The William Woods University men's 4x400-meter relay team collected a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay finals on Saturday evening to cap off the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
