JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Union freshman John Luther captured the men's most outstanding athlete award at the 2011 Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, which was held today at Sidney Smallwood Track. As a team, both Union men's and women's teams finished second overall at the meet.

The junior college transfer finished third in Eugene, Ore., at the United States Track and Field Olympic Trials on Saturday, coming just short of making the Olympic Team heading to London in a matter of weeks.
